Kaija Saariaho (natural October 14, 1952) is a Finnish composer.

She was innate inside Helsinki and studied music at a Sibelius Academy there. She late exposed inside Freiburg (under Brian Ferneyhough and Klaus Huber) and at IRCAM in Paris. Many of her pieces apply electronic resources alongisde traditional instruments; Nymphéa (Jardin secret III) (1987), e.g., is for string quartet and live electronics.

She has won a Prix Italia and, in 1989, a Prix Ars Electronica1952 birth, received commissions from Lincoln Center for the Kronos Quartet, and from either IRCAM for the Ensemble Intercontemporain, and been the subject of the pan-European collaborative plan to create a Video-ROM Prisma just about her operate.
